1975
Sherry Thomas ranks as one of the most popular romance authors from the United States today. She has been the recipient of several prestigious reviews from venerated publications and trade publications such as Kirkus, Library Journal, and Publishers Weekly. She has also been feted by media organizations such as the New York Times and National Public Radio. English is Thomas’s second language since she was born in China, and her very earliest experiences of English was her grandmother doing English language newspaper crossword puzzles. Once she had moved to the United States aged thriteen, she would improve her English through reading romance and fiction novels such as “Sweet Savage Love” by Rosemary Roger, and the fiction of Isaac Asimov that she read with the help of an English Chinese dictionary. Her debut novel was an English-set Victorian romance that she first published in 2006 after seven failed attempts. In 2013, she would branch into young adult fantasy before branching into traditional historical settings in 2014 to publish a set of novels set in Imperialist China. Some of her historical romances include The Lady Sherlock Series, The Marsdens, The London Trilogy, Heart of Blade Duology, and The Fitzhughs. Very early in her publishing career, she decided that she would only write novels that she would enjoy reading. As it currently stands, she has published novels in the romance, mystery, fantasy, and a wuxia-inspired duology. Two of her novels the 2011 published “His at Night” and the 2010 published “Not Quite a Husband” won the Best Historical Romance award at the RITA awards in 2011 and 2010 respectively. She currently lives in Austin Texas with her sons and husband and when she is not writing, she can be found thinking about the zaniness and zen of her writing career, reading books, and playing computer games with her sons.
