Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodriguez is a Nicaraguan born American popularly known for her novel, For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts. She knows what it’s like to face low expectations, judgment from strangers, and colorism within her own community. In fifth grade, her Latino classmates teased her about her dark skin, using the term “India” to reference Indigenous people. A high school counselor once advised her against enrolling in advanced classes.
