Peter MatthiessenPeter Matthiessen was born May 22, 1927 in New York City to Erard and Elizabeth Matthiessen. The well to do family lived in New York City and Connecticut where, along with his brother, Peter developed a love of animals which influenced his future work as a wildlife naturalist and writer.
