Madeleine L’Engle
1918 – 2007
Madeleine L’Engle was one of the highly reputed authors from America, who used to write her novels based on the science fiction, memoirs, literature & fiction, fantasy, and biography genres. She was particularly famous for her work based on the young adult fiction, including the Newberry Medal winner, A Wrinkle in Time as well as its sequel novels. Most of the works of author Engle reflect her deep interest in the area of modern science. Some of the aspects of modern science that she has taken up in her novels include Tesseracts, mitochondrial DNA, organ regeneration, etc. Author Engle was born on November 29, 1918 and died on September 6, 2007. Her birth had taken place in the New York City, New York, where she spent her former years. As a school going child, she was not at all interested in doing school work. Instead of that, Engle used to spend all her time writing poems, journals, and stories for herself. This lack of attention towards her studies was apparently visible through her poor grades. But, she did not get discouraged because of it. When author Engle was 12 years old, she shifted to the French Alps along with her parents. She was enrolled in an English school over there and her passion for writing stories and poems did not stop even there. Author Engle returned back to Ashley Hall, Charleston, South Carolina, Unites States and passed out her high school year with flying colors. She used to often go for vacation on the beautiful beaches in Florida along with her mother. Later, author Engle joined the Smith College and began studying English literature. During her course, she was fortunate enough to have some of the best teachers. After reading through the classics Engle went on to continue with her own creative writing.
