She is among the six people to receive two Newberry medals, with two of her novels being recognized The Tale of the Despareux and Flora and Ulyses. Kate is widely known for the Mercy Watson series, which has been illustrated by Chris Van Dusen. Elizabeth was at one time appointed by the Library of Congress to serve as the U.S National Assembly Ambassador for the Young People Literature in the year 2014 and 2015.
