JY Yang
The Singaporean writer JY Yang has been writing for quite some time now, having put out a lot of work at a regular and ever consistent pace, some novels even being released simultaneously. This has lead to one of the most impressive backlogs of work, as Yang has managed to create both series and colorful novels set firmly within the East Asian traditions of their culture. Largely focusing on the subgenre of ‘silkpunk’ novels, they’ve managed to establish a niche that is very much their own, allowing it to stand-out from the rest of the novels within its field. Using fantastical themes and ideas, silkpunk largely focuses on an alternative view of East Asian culture, infusing both science-fiction and fantasy, thus offering a different outlook on the history of their culture. This is something that Yang has managed to achieve extremely well, building rich and imaginative landscapes that draw the reader in, letting them feel a part of the action. Along with this there’s also a strong sense of character and personality used throughout Yang’s novels that they’ve worked in order to create an almost intimate relationship with the reader. This has been resonating with readers worldwide, regardless of where they’re from, allowing them to form a connection with what’s going on. With more books set to be released in the near future, Yang’s writing career will grow from strength-to-strength, something which isn’t going to be stopping any time soon.
