Herman Melville
1819 – 1891
Herman Melville (1819-1891) was an American author. Melville would gain fame in the 1840s, but it would be short lived and by his death, he was barely remembered. He is best known for his novelMoby-Dick, which is unanimously considered to be a literary classic. However, interestingly enough, the book didn’t even sell out its first priting of 3,000 copies. It would not be until the Melville Revival of the 1920s that Melville would regain fame posthumously.
