Helen MacInnes
1907 – 1985
Helen MacInnes (1907-1985) was a Scottish- American author of spy fiction novels. She was born in Glasgow to Jessica MacDiarmid and Donald MacInnes and spent her childhood in a traditional Scots Presbyterian upbringing. MacInnes graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and German from the University of Glasgow in 1928. After her M.A in 1928, she furthered her studies at University College, London where she graduated with a diploma in librarianship in 1931. While working as a librarian, the author met and married Gilbert Highet in 1932, and together they relocated to New York City in 1937.
