Born in Canada in 1913, Elizabeth was a novel writer and a poet. She grew up in an affluent and renowned family. In fact, her father was a lawyer who regularly mixed with prominent people. With a good private education, Elizabeth was given the best beginning in academic life. This was not a surprise that she became interested in poetry and novel writing at her tender age.Apart from being an author, she loved music .when she was 18 years old, she chose to study at Kings College in England. When she graduated, she landed her first job as a secretary to Margret Watt who was the leader of women living in rural areas. It was the period that she met George barker’s poetry. The person could define much about her future.The relationship of Elizabeth with the English poet started during that period. Nevertheless, smart could even inform her friends that she love the man and would like to marry him.When she finished working as a secretary, Elizabeth returned to her home in Ottawa. This is where she began working on her local journals. This prompted her to begin her career in both poetry and writing.After venturing into the writing industry, she decided to make a visit to California and New York. This is where she met prominent writers for that time including Lawrence Durrell. At this time, she finally met with her lover of live, barker. Unfortunately, Barker was married, and he lived in Japan. However, he made an effort of traveling into the United States. This is where she met her and made a passionate and long-standing affair..Their relationship led to Elizabeth becoming pregnant. After that period, she went back to Canada being optimistic that Barker would follow her. But, her family intervened when he attempted to do so. Hence, the writer was refused an entry visa. This made Elizabeth to go back to the US again. Smart became pregnant again for the second child. At this time, she moved to England and worked in the ministry of defense whereby she was close to barker.It was during this moment when she wrote the most famous work, by grand central station’ I sat down and wept.’ This was a fictional story about the relationship with George Barker.Also, she had two more kids with Barker. She later took up as an advertising copy which took place until 1966. After that, she relocated to Suffolk where she became a creative writer.
