Dave Eggers
1970
Dave Eggers is the son of a school teacher and a lawyer. He was raised in Lake Forest, Illinois, Chicago. He attended the University of Illinois where he studied Journalism. It was during his time in the University that both his parents died of cancer. His father succumbed to lung and brain cancer while his mother died of stomach cancer. He was left to take care of his younger brother after this sad ordeal. This is a situation that later came to be one of his best works. Upon the death of his parents, Dave Eggers moved to California where he took on different jobs and later came to publish, ’A Heart-breaking Work of Staggering Genius’. Over the years, Dave Eggers has written many books and in most of his books, there is one thing that attracts readers and makes them look forward to his future works. This is the fact that he always uses real life experiences to tell a story; something that makes many people identify to the story’s he tells. The stories also generate different conversations which people like because they open up their minds to new thoughts and understanding of different situations.
